Each new school year the city commission, city staff, public and charter school officials, school board staff and representatives, and Cooper City public safety personnel meet to share their plans, concerns, and goals for the upcoming year. Thoughts are exchanged and partnerships are strengthened. • (Below) On July 28th, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) made history as it welcomed approximately 300 incoming medical students in the nation’s first combined WHITE COAT CEREMONY celebrating Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) candidates together. The ceremony also served as the of- ficial welcome for the charter class of 53 M.D. students, who are enrolled in the new Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine. NSU is one of only three universities in the U.S. with two medical colleges. (Top) On August 4th, FLORIDA MEDICAL CENTER'S EMER- GENCY CARE CENTER (10230 W State Rd 84, Davie) hosted a "Back To School" event. Police officers printed ID badges for kids, members of the Davie Fire Department were on hand to talk about fire safety, children and their favorite stuffed animals got to participate in a teddy bear clinic, and more. • (Below) The United Way of Broward County’s MISSION UNITED teamed up with The Castle Group to distribute 525 backpacks filled with school supplies to children of military families in Broward County. The backpacks were handed out during a Veterans Family Expo at the United Way of Broward County’s Colker Center to help alleviate the financial burden many families face at the start of the new school year.
