b'MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH RELAY FOR LIFE ON JUNE 5TH, 2021Relay is back! The American Cancer Societys (ACS) Relay For Life is one of the countrys great fundraising events, as communities around the U.S. form teams (or just show up) to honor cancer survivors and caregivers, remember those we have lost, and have lots of fun while walking laps, camping out, selling & devouring tasty eats, enjoying a host of entertainment, and more. Its a party with a purpose, and both Davie-Cooper City and Weston have put on spectacular events for many years. Last year, the ACS made the dif cult decision to inde nitely postpone the 2020 Relays due to COVID-19, particularly given the events high-risk participants. But after a long a dif cult year, Relay For Life Broward Power will unite six communities for a single, spectacular affair on June 5th from 3-9 p.m. at a soon-to-be-announced location. Its going to be as close to a classic relay as possible, while following all CDC guidelines, said Peter Rose, Development Manager for the American Cancer Society. Well have the traditional opening ceremony, survival and caregiver recognition, laps, and so on. The Luminaria ceremony, which features customized paper lanterns honoring cancer victims, will be a key focus. The lanterns are held in place by canned goods which are later donated; so please, bring canned goods for donation!Although the overall theme is Relay For Life Broward Power, each of the participating communities have their own sub-themes carried over from last years canceled events: Come Together For A Cure in Davie/Cooper City, Blast From The Past For A Future Without Cancer in Weston, MargaRELAYville 2.1 in Pines/Miramar, and Camp Relay in Plantation. This helps ensure that the funds spent prepping for last year\'s Relays do not go to waste, further contributing to the estimated $200 millionfundraising shortfall the ACS faced last year, "primarily due to the cancellation of last years Relay and other COVID impacts," said Rose. "Its the biggest loss of funding the ACS has ever experienced in a single blow. Vital research and support programs are at risk."But that was then, this is now, and now is the time to team up with friends, family, and co-workers for a unique event in the decades-long history of the Relay For Life. "By raising funds and sharing resources we are helping to save lives. We really hope that the experience on June 5th will reinvigorate the community," said Rose, who also thanks Presenting SponsorUKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), Platinum SponsorThe City of Pembroke Pines, Platinum Sponsorthe Kazma Family Foundation, and Bronze SponsorHolman Automotive.Head to RelayForLife.org/BrowardCelebration for the latest on whats happening with the event and your local team.
