DRWMAG.COM 26 #353 • SEPTEMBER 2018 • 29 YEARS STRONG COMM. CORNER Back to school, elections & bonds by COMMISSIONER JEFF GREEN Greetings to all of the DRW readers! To all of our students, teachers, school administrators, school staffers, and resource officers – wel- come back! School is back in session and our children and parents are making the adjust- ment of getting up early once again. It is my hope and prayer that our children will have a much better year than the previous one. I am mindful of the horrific tragedies of last year that forever changed the lives of so many in our local communities, and am hopeful that the decision makers at all levels of government will do what is right for our children. Our children are our highest priority, and we must ensure that every decision that impacts them is in their best interest and not that of any political view! In just a few months many people will head to the polls and exercise their right to vote in the midterm elections. There are a number of important items on the ballot that can impact our lives, and we must be diligent in ob- taining the right information. For those of us who live in Cooper City, there are several items that will impact our community. First, the District 1 and District 2 Seats will be vacated by John Sims and Lisa Mallozzi as a result of term limits. On behalf of all our residents, we say “Thank You” to Commissioners Lisa Mallozzi and John Sims for their dedi- cated service to our community, and hope that they will be successful in any future endeavors. Another ballot item that potentially will impact our community is the Bond Referendum For Renovation and Improvement of Public Recreational Facilities, and it reads as: “Shall the City of Cooper City issue general obligation bonds not exceeding $12,000,000, in one or more series, maturing not later than twenty (20) years from their issuance dates, bearing interest not exceeding the maximum allowable by law,pay- able from ad valorem taxes levied by the City,to finance renovations and improvements to Bill Lips Park and the Sports Complex?” On September 24th I will host aTown Hall Meeting at City Hall at 6:30 p.m. and have invited Mr. Jay Glover, FinancialAdvisor, and Mr. Jeff Crews, Project Manager, to provide our residents with accurate information on the potential bond impact and the renovations that may occur. I encourage all residents to attend! Seating will be limited, so plan on arriving a few minutes early to get a seat. Lastly, I would like to thank our City Manager, Mr. Bruce Loucks, our department directors, and all of our employees for all of your hard work and dedication to our residents!Your unwavering commitment to our community has not gone unnoticed, and I appreciate you and am honored to work along side of you in caring for our residents. To all of the DRW readers, God bless you, and God bless our nation! since 1968!
