b'THE PHOTO RECORD(1) On June 11th, the MAKE-A-WISH-FOUNDATION grant-ed Damian Sierens wish for an all-terrain wheelchair. The 12-year-old Davie resident has Duchenne muscular dystro-phy and requires assistance with his wheelchair to get from place to place. An independent child that loves the outdoors, Damian just wants to be a kid and participate in activities with his Boy Scout troop without burdening anyone or beinglimited as to where he can go. Damians was overwhelmed with joy as his wish was revealed, something that will change his entire world, according to his dad, Mark. It will give himthe gift of independent mobility on any dry surface, enable him to climb hills, and even elevate to Damian to a stand-ing position, allowing him to reach shelves in his home. It is equipped with its own generator that recharges the bat- 1tery, so the newest wish kid will soon be leading the long hikes Boy Scouts go on. Nearly 50 people, including some of Damians fellow Boy Scouts, attended the surprise reveal of his wish at Charnow Park in Hollywood.(2-3) The For Paul Foundations HEROES DINNER, held June 4th at Bonaven-tureTownCenter,welcomed320FirstRespondersfrom around the country. The students recent-ly embarked on a fundraising campaign, using the Dominos discount cards to raise $5,000 for Joe DiMaggio Childrens Hospital Foundation. The dollars will support the hospitals3bibliotherapy program, to which students donated nearly 30books on a recent visit, and its child life fund. The biblio-therapy library is a special place within the hospital where we can keep books to help children understand what they maybegoingthrough, saidCaitlinStella,CEOofJoe DiMaggio Childrens Hospital. Its hard for a four-year-old to understand a cancer diagnosis, for example, so sometimes we use therapeutic books where the story about a character is similar to what the child is experiencing. Students also presented a plaque commemorating the occasion that will be4displayed near the nearly 300 books that will be purchased from their contribution.
